Pixar’s latest original film, Hoppers (2026), is already earning significant achievements for the company. Its opening weekend revenue was about $48 million domestically! This is the highest-earning opening weekend for a Pixar original story since Coco was released in 2017; while the film didn't hit the $58 million Coco (2017) did, this is still a very significant amount of money. In an era where the box office has yet to fully recover from the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown, this is a particularly impressive achievement.
The company's latest success was Inside Out 2 (2024), the sequel to Inside Out (2015). This sequel was released nearly a decade after the first film and proved that the company can still produce successful projects; however, it did not prove that they can still draw success from original stories. Elio (2025), the company’s most recent original film before Hoppers (2026), had the company's worst-performing opening in its history at about $20.8 million domestically. This film had other drama surrounding it, including the removal of Elio’s open interest in fashion and environmental protection before its release, further shaking faith in the company for many. With the early success that Hoppers (2026) is presenting so far, things are looking up for Pixar originals
