The Mandalorian has been around since 2019, and over the 7 years since Din Djarin's debut, much has been written about Pedro Pascal’s contributions to the role. Pascal was always the face of the character and donned the suit from time to time for certain important scenes. However, his face was shown to audiences just 3 times, once in season one and twice in season two. Since then, it’s been 6 years since Din Djarin has been shown without his helmet, and the online rumor mill has written Pascal off as a guy who shows up to voice his character and doesn’t have much else to do. This couldn’t be further from the truth, especially when it comes to The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is Pascal’s Star Wars movie debut.

In a conversation with Empire Magazine, Pascal and creator Jon Favreau left no mystery about who’s portraying Din Djarin for the 2-hour-long movie. Favreau confirms that not only will Pedro be there in the suit for the helmetless scenes, but also for much of the rest of the film. He reveals, “You’ll see Pedro in the armour, both with and without the helmet”. This is exciting news for fans and should set the record straight for clickbait content creators who try to sell the narrative that Pedro was either fired or wants nothing to do with the role apart from voicing Din Djarin. Favreau even praised Pascal’s physical performance and said that “we pushed a little further than we have in the past, as far as what he’s doing, helmet-off.” This automatically raises fans’ expectations for the character. Pedro has been a part of shows like Game of Thrones, Narcos, and The Last of Us. He recently performed in fight scenes for Gladiator II, and it looks like he’s in the shape of his life just in time for the Mando movie.

Even though the trailer confirms that Mando will be shown without his helmet, Favreau calls it a “tricky” sequence to pull off, because you want to see his face, but the archetype is that of the helmet. How do we find a way to do it without undermining everything that we developed about the Mandalorian Creed?” Does this mean he’ll have to take a trip back to the Mines of Mandalore to wash away his sins? The exact reasons for his helmet removal will only be revealed in the movie. Still, they were convincing to Pedro, who has always agreed with Favreau that he should only show his face when it’s necessary. Pascal says, “When we got to that part, all I can say is that it made perfect sense, and it was what I was hoping would be the reason.” The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22.
