'The Wild Robot' Sequel Gets The Green Light

The DreamWorks Animation hit of 2024, The Wild Robot, is in development. Based on the book series by Peter Brown, the sequel will adapt the second book as The Wild Robot Escapes. One of the directors behind Oscar-nominated Nimona, Troy Quane, will direct this sequel, with Heidi Jo Gilbert, head of story on the first film, co-directing. Chris Sanders, director of the first film, will write the screenplay, with producer Jeff Hermann returning as producer.
Awarded Best Animated Feature by the Critics’ Choice Awards, along with many others, The Wild Robot was praised for its painterly visuals and emotional depth. Telling a story about a high-tech robot named Roz (portrayed by Lupita Nyong’o) who washed up on an island inhabited only by animals. The sequel sees Roz and her bird-son Brightbill trapped at a dairy farm, which they aim to escape from and return to the island.
No release date has yet been given for The Wild Robot Escapes. The next two years have some big releases for DreamWorks Animation scheduled, with Forgotten Island in September 2026. Shrek 5, once set to release at the end of 2026, was delayed to June 2027. The live-action How To Train Your Dragon 2 will also be released at the same time.
