Michał Kiciński, co-founder of GOG, has now acquired 100% of the shares of the digital distribution platform. Now fully owning the platform, Kiciński has promised that GOG will continue to operate as usual, keeping games alive and DRM-free. That also includes the close ties with former owners of GOG, CD PROJEKT, a company which Kiciński also co-founded.
The acquisition was fully financed through committed funding secured at closing. Kiciński is not selling any of his shares in CD PROJEKT as part of the sale. A distribution agreement was signed by both parties, which states the terms of future cooperation. Cooperation, which includes bringing future CD PROJEKT RED games to GOG.
On the news of the ownership change, Kiciński said, “CD PROJEKT and GOG share the same roots and values: freedom, independence, and a genuine sense of ownership. I believe that CD PROJEKT, with its exceptional AAA games, will stand, as always, behind the GOG offering – making GOG the best place on the planet to purchase The Witcher and Cyberpunk games, both existing titles and the new ones we all anticipate so much.”
Managing Director of GOG, Maciej Gołębiewski, said of the acquisition, “GOG and Michał Kiciński are aligned by a shared belief that games should live forever. In a market that’s getting more crowded, more locked-in, and forgets classic games at an increasing pace, we’re doubling down on what only GOG does: reviving classics, keeping them playable on modern PCs, and helping great games find their audience over time.”
