With Spider-Man: Brand New Day still in active production, fans recently received a new casting announcement revealed that one actor will be reprising his role as a classic Spider-Man villain, but in a brand new medium. In an exclusive article, Deadline revealed that Tombstone will be featured in Brand New Day, with actor and rapper Marvin Jones III bringing the character to life.
Making his debut in the 1988 comic ‘Web of Spider-Man,’ Lonnie Lincoln aka Tombstone, is a notorious crime boss and a recurring thorn in Spider-Man’s side, depicted as a black man with albinism, with near-indestructible skin. He’s appeared in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, where he was portrayed by Dorian Haywood, as well as Spectacular Spider-Man, where he was voiced by Keith David. Most recently, Eugene Byrd would portray a young Lonnie Lincoln in Marvel Animation’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
What makes Jones III’s casting exciting is the fact that he previously voiced Tombstone in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and is set to reprise the role in Beyond the Spider-Verse, making him a rare instance of a voice actor portraying the same character in live-action and in another universe!
Marvin Jones III aka Krondon’s own background is nothing to scoff at either, having written for rappers such as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, and producing several rap albums of his own. However, he is best known for his portrayal of the villain Tobias Whale in the DC series Black Lightning, a character best known for his ruthlessness and sharp tongue, having come up with some of the most creative insults and one-liners in television.
Starring Tom Holland and directed by Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters July 31st, 2026.
