Yakuza Kiwami 3 has officially been announced. After fans noticed a leak on the RGG website regarding the possible remake, they speculated that the game would be officially announced during the RGG summit today, and they were correct. While fans are excited, there are also some mixed opinions regarding the upcoming remake.
Let's start with the good. There will be more Mine content, and he is even getting his own Gaiden story, which will be included with the game. Dark Ties will star Yoshitaka Mine and will serve as a prequel, giving fans more insight into Mine’s backstory. Not only that, but the base game will also be expanded upon. The remake will expand on the original story, incorporating new scenes, dialogue, and side stories. You will even be able to hang around Morning Glory orphanage, and do various minigames like cooking and bug catching. The children will also have their own substories. Most importantly, however, are the new karaoke songs that the game will give us, including Baka Mitai sung by Mine.

Some of the biggest complaints regarding the new game are the recasts of some of its most iconic characters, one of these being Rikiya, who plays an essential part of the story. He was completely recast with a new VA and also a completely new look. Another recast was Hamazaki, who also plays a big role in Yakuza 4. He looks completely different, so it wouldn’t be surprising if a remake of the fourth game is coming sometime in the near future. Nakahara, a big part of the third game’s story, was also changed. They are now “likeness” characters, which has been met with mixed opinions from fans. Kiryu’s iconic red shirt, which he wears in Okinawa, was also changed.
It was also announced that the Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam on December 8th in both digital and physical editions. Yakuza Kiwami 1 and Yakuza Kiwami 2 will also be making their way to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on the same day.
Yakuza Kiwami 3 releases on February 12th, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, PS4, and PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
