'Squid Game' Dominates Streaming Viewership

The third season of Squid Game has arrived on Netflix, with it being no surprise that the season has topped the watch time chart of Nielsen’s latest US ranking of streaming originals. Amassing 3.2 billion minutes viewed for the week of June 23, Squid Game (22 episodes) marks the chart’s second-largest tally of the year. The first being the 4.6 billion minutes of watch time the series claimed during the December 30, 2004, to January 5, 2025.

The South Korean series has been a popular one since it first arrived on Netflix with its first season in 2021. The latest tracking shows that the series has been most popular with adults in the 18-49 range at 58%, with under-35s seeing a larger share of that range with 32%. Hispanic audiences make up quite a large percentage of the overall viewership at 44%.

For the June 23 period, Netflix originals have proven popular on the charts, with The Waterfront ( 8 episodes) taking third at 1.5 billion minutes watched, and Ginny & Georgia (30 episodes) taking fourth with 980 million minutes watched. Second place on the charts is taken by Peacock’s Love Island USA (235 episodes) with 1.8 billion minutes watched, while fifth place sees Hulu’s The Bear (38 episodes) return to the chart with 920 million minutes watched.

Disney+ series Ironheart managed to take sixth on the chart with 526 million minutes watched, despite just three episodes being available at that time. Netflix sees representation in seventh, eighth, and tenth with the documentary Trainwreck: Poop Cruise at 512 million minutes, America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders (14 episodes) with 488 million minutes watched, and Stranger Things (34 episodes) at 380 million minutes. Ninth on the chart is taken by Prime Video’s We Were Liars (8 episodes) with 420 million minutes watched.
