Lucasfilm just announced a second season for Maul - Shadow Lord. This is only the third time a follow-up season of a Star Wars show has been confirmed before the first episode of this show even aired, and it marks the premiere for an animated series, as the other two shows were The Mandalorian and Andor.
Maul - Shadow Lord will premiere on April 6 on Disney+ with two episodes titled “The Dark Revenge” and “Sinister Schemes”. Two new episodes will follow every Monday, with the season finale airing on May 4.
Created, developed and executive produced by Lucasfil co-CEO Dave Filoni the cast of the show includes Sam Witwer, who reprises his role as the former apprentice of Darth Sidious from The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, a young Twi’lek girl and former Jedi Padawan who crosses path with Maul, recent Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, a human male who investiges a series of crimes on the planet Janix, Richard Ayoade as as Lawson’s trusted droid Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, a crime lord, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Brendar Lawson’s son, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, another character brought over from The Clone Wars, David W. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus.

With season one of Maul - Shadow Lord set during the first years of the Galactic Empire, this leaves more than a decade to explore the further adventures (and undoings) of the former Sith Lord until he gets in contact with Ezra Bridger and the crew of the Ghost in Rebels and meets his ultimate demise at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine.
Depending on when season two is set in the Star Wars timeline, we could see Maul meet and recruit Qi’ra and Dryden Vos for his Crimson Dawn crime syndicate, connecting the show with Solo: A Star Wars Story, and many fans dream of a duel between Maul and Darth Vader, something that has happened in a Star Wars Legends comic (but was considered non-canon even back then).
There is no word yet on when season two of Maul - Shadow Lord will premiere, but given the usual release cadence of Star Wars shows, it will likely be in the spring of 2027.
