Joining Ryan Gosling as part of the cast are Flynn Gray, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Amy Adams, Mia Goth, and Matt Smith. The latter two will supposedly be the villains of the film.

Of particular interest from that cast list is Flynn Gray, a rising star in the acting world. First entering the scene in 2022, starring in some short films, he has seen roles in films such as 2023’s Baltimore and has recently starred in an episode of series such as Sherlock & Daughter and Wednesday. The rest of the cast list are known names in the world of film, with a particular notable name for this writer being Simon Bird. Star of such shows as The Inbetweeners and Friday Night Dinner.

As part of the announcement, Levy said, “I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off is the thrill of a lifetime.”

Star Wars: Starfighter will be the first movie set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and the second to arrive in theatres since that film was released. The first being The Mandalorian & Grogu, which will arrive next year. With a script by Jonathan Trooper, Star Wars: Starfighter will be directed and produced by Shawn Levy. Also producing is Kathleen Kennedy. Ryan Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen are executive producers. Star Wars: Starfighter will release in theatres on May 28, 2027.
