Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian and Grogu film is easily one of the most anticipated upcoming Star Wars projects. During day one of Star Wars Celebration Japan, fans were given their first look at what will be in the film. While there is still more than a year before the film’s release, director and writer Jon Favreau, as well as Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy, who are producing the film, were in attendance when the teaser was shown.
The teaser begins with an AT-AT searching for a target and shows dozens of troopers on the planet’s surface. The back door of the walker is blown off, and we get our first look at Mando. He uses a combination of his blaster, flame thrower, and wire to take out at least a dozen troopers before blowing up the AT-AT, and we see it fall off a snowy cliff. We then cut to our first look at Sigourney Weaver’s New Republic character, who tells Grogu and Mando, “Messy. Very Messy.”

They are sitting at a table together, and Grogu is attempting to steal her snacks. We then cut to scenes of a Razor Crest ship flying, and Mando and Grogu walking with Star Wars Rebels fan-favorite character, Zeb. Weaver’s character can be heard saying, “You work for us,” making it clear that Mando has returned to work. We also see Mando searching through a dark location and soon discovering the remains of a droid.
The trailer also included scenes of a bar fight, Grogu swimming, and Grogu destroying a mouse droid with the force. The final shot of the trailer features Jabba the Hutt’s son Rotta in a gladiator-style arena while Grogu eats popcorn and looks on from the crowd.
The film will star Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White, who will be voicing Rotta.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
