The Mighty Nein animated series is finally here! The series adapts the second campaign from the D&D group, Critical Role. The first three episodes were released on Amazon Prime, and as a huge fan of the second campaign, this looks like it’s going to be a great adaptation!

The first three episodes are all about how our characters meet each other, with some backstory thrown in, too. The first episode focuses on Caleb and him meeting Nott and Beauregard. We also get to meet the terrible Trent Ikathon, and wizard Essek Thelyss. The very end of the episode teases Yasha, who will have a bigger role to play in the show. In the next episode, we meet our favorite little blue tiefling, Jester Lavorre. It all starts with her mother, though, the beautiful Ruby Of The Sea. Jester gets into a bit of trouble and runs into Fjord, who has just walked many miles after his ship crashed at sea. Her mother instructs him to take Jester away from Nicodranas for the time being. The third episode was my favorite of the three. It featured the Fletching and Moondrop Carnival, and introduced us to Mollymauk Tealeaf. After some chaos, it also has all of our characters finally coming together.

The animation is gorgeous. It has a different look to it compared to The Legend of Vox Machina. There’s just something about it that I prefer. It looks smoother, and the show itself is much more colorful. There are plenty of fun little easter eggs scattered throughout the episodes that fans will appreciate.

Just like in TLOVM, the characters are voiced by the people who played them. It’s fun to see the voices match what the characters actually look like.  Matt Mercer, the DM of the campaign, lends his voice to fan favorite wizard, Essek Thelyss. The show has a stacked guest of guests as well, who lend their voices to the various icons throughout Exandria.

Campaign 2 will always be my favorite Critical Role campaign, as it was the one I started with from the beginning. I watched it live every week, which was always fun. Getting to see it animated on screen is surreal. I’ll admit that I was never a fan of Mollymauk. I think if we had more time with the character, my opinion would’ve changed; however, the third episode changed my opinion on him. He’s very likable and an all-around cool guy. Maybe he was always like that, but the show made me appreciate him.  I can’t wait to see all my favorite moments, and eventually, my boy and favorite character, Caduceus Clay. I’m also excited to see what they change and add to make the story even better.

Critical Role can be overwhelming for anyone trying to get into it, as there is a vast amount of content. I love that these shows can introduce people to the stories, which will hopefully lead them to seek out the campaign. The first three episodes were done extremely well and introduced us to our beloved heroes. I am excited to see where it takes us next!
