Drew Struzan, the man behind many of Hollywood’s iconic movie posters, passed away at the age of 78. Struzan illustrated the poster for the original Star Wars, Back To The Future, E.T., and Blade Runner. He retired after creating the poster for 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Retirement didn’t last long for Struzan, who occasionally found himself back at work. Still part of the Lucasfilm family, Struzan was called to create a special poster for a re-release of Star Wars in the 90s In 2015, he illustrated the poster for The Force Awakens. Struzan is survived by his wife, Dylan, and his son, Christian.

His official Instagram was updated by a manager. The post read, “It is with a heavy heart that I must tell you that Drew Struzan has moved on from this world as of yesterday, October 13th. I feel it is important that you all know many times he expressed to me the joy he felt knowing how much you appreciated his art. - Greg, IG manager.” Struzan’s work was appreciated enough to spawn a 2013 documentary from Erik Sharkey called Drew: The Man Behind The Poster. Once Struzan was asked what his favorite poster was. He replied, “If I had a favorite, then I would have already done the best I can do. I’d lose my spark of creativity. My favorite is always the very next one.” Rest in peace, Drew.
