Thanks to Collider, Star Wars readers everywhere now have a great look at an upcoming novel set after the Sequel Trilogy of Star Wars.
Star Wars: The Last Order will follow Finn and Jannah in the immediate aftermath of The Rise of Skywalker as they pursue a First Order officer responsible for the abduction of young people for indoctrination into the First Order. The novel promises an exploration of their past with this now-defeated authoritarian power, and is being written by author Kwame Mbalia.
The new cover, created by designer Jason Wojtowicz and artist Kim Thompson, accompanied an interview with Mbalia that discussed the novel and some of the secrets of the cover. According to Mbalia, the flowers we see will be a key element to one of the novel’s storylines, and we will also see other characters from the Resistance in the novel. Our best guess is that less well known characters will take center-stage and there will only be brief appearances by Rey, Poe, and Lando Calrissian.

Mbalia also revealed the amusing fact that he apparently got the job due to one of his social media posts prior to the release of The Rise of Skywalker. It proposed an exploration of Finn and Jannah’s background, which now, several years later, he is able to officially explore. The Last Order comes out on October 21st, 2025, and we can’t wait to read this fascinating novel.
