After a month of being in theatres in the Asia Pacific territory (two for Japan), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle has now arrived in the US. And has proven to be popular with anime enthusiasts, opening to $70 million at the box office. That opening has pushed the worldwide box office figure to over $350 million.
For the domestic market, that opening means Infinity Castle is the sixth biggest opening for September, sitting behind the likes of 2017’s It ($123.4 million) and Disney’s 2021 MCU release Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($75.3 million). The opening figures for Infinity Castle also make it the best domestic opening for an anime movie, the best opening for a Crunchyroll title, and Sony’s best opening for the last two years.
The first of a movie trilogy adapting the Infinity Castle arc of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, there has been quite a push from Crunchyroll to advertise it. This included a watch party for the series on Crunchyroll’s YouTube channels. Most markets now have Infinity Castle out in theatres, though numbers for most have yet to be reported. As such, it’s possible the movie could be breaking more records as more figures are recorded.
