Everybody’s favorite dinosaur sidekick is getting another addition to his own video game franchise! Nintendo just announced during an extra-long Nintendo Direct celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise on September 12 that a new Yoshi game will drop in Spring 2026. This game is called Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Its premise is that the titular mysterious book drops in on Yoshi on Yoshi’s Island. The book is called Mr. E, and it is about all types of different creatures. The only problem is, Mr. E cannot see inside himself because his eyes are on the cover.
Here comes Yoshi to the rescue! The adorable dinosaur is able to leap into the pages of the book, find out information about the creatures, and then the pages of the book are written with this information. (The information also seems to include flavor profiles as Yoshi does his thing and gobbles up the beasties he encounters.) Within the book, there are a variety of creatures that hop on Yoshi’s back to help him activate certain abilities: for example, a flower-creature helps plants and flowers bloom in this world. There are also opportunities for fishing and surfing (and who wouldn’t want to go surfing on a dinosaur?). This mysterious book world is set apart by its artwork, which looks hand-drawn, and there is stop-motion animation. While we wait for the game to come out, we can watch the trailer here:
