Dragon Ball fans rejoice! On Sunday, January 25th, the "Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri!" 40th anniversary event was held, and it announced several things. The highlight, however, was the announcement of the long-anticipated continuation of the Dragon Ball Super anime, titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol.
The upcoming anime, which will be the first Dragon Ball anime to begin production since Akira Toriyama’s passing in March 2024, was announced in a special 40th anniversary video featuring music by Hans Zimmer.
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol will adapt the arc in the Dragon Ball Super manga following the Universal Survival arc, which is the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc.” Goku and Vegeta work with the Galactic Patrol to fight against “a new enemy, ‘Planet-Eater’ Moro,” the official Dragon Ball website writes. The series is set for production, but no release date has been set at this time, though a 2027 release is likely.

Also announced at the event was an “enhanced” edition of the original Dragon Ball Super anime entitled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus. Set for a fall release, this anime will feature a reconstructed story with “extensive new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage,” and newly recorded dialogue and music. With both projects, there is no word yet on an international release at this time.
