The second day of Star Wars Celebration Japan has given fans a lot of amazing interviews and images to talk about. Among these was news out of the Ahsoka panel, which included several comments about the second season, and gave us our first good look at the new Baylan Skoll.
For those unaware, shortly before Ahsoka Season 1 premiered, Baylan Skoll’s actor, Ray Stevenson, suddenly passed away. This shocking turn of events was tragic, but also proved to be a problem as the first season ended on a cliffhanger of Baylan pursuing a mysterious mission in the wilds of the planet Peridea.
However, rumors of a recast, and then confirmation of said recast, emerged in recent months. Rory McCann, perhaps best known to fans for playing The Hound in HBO’s Game of Thrones, stepped into the role. The two actors were apparently friends, and there are a number of physical similarities between both McCann and Stevenson.
These traits were on display with the first look presented at Celebration, showing the physically imposing form and thick beard of McCann looking incredibly similar to Stevenson’s Baylan. We are sure that McCann will play an excellent Baylan in Season 2 of Ahsoka, which is set to go into production when Dave Filoni returns from Celebration.
