First Trailer For 'The Odyssey' Has Released

After a great deal of build-up, the first full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s next film has been released.
The Odyssey will be an adaptation of the titular real-world epic poem of the same name. Produced and directed by Nolan, he is joined by fellow producer Emma Thomas and executive producer Thomas Hayslip, with a large pool of notable actors playing roles in this iteration of the Greek epic.
To describe the trailer feels a bit redundant, given that the Odyssey is one of the most widely known works of Greek literature, and the trailer hits on some of the main points of Odysseus’s journey. One notable moment depicts Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, in conversation with his wife, Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, as she begs him to come home to her after the war. Odysseus isn’t sure if he can, but the wider trailer shows selections from that epic journey home. We also get a look at Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, though the appearance is brief.
The trailer has prompted a great deal of discussion online, with some noting the overall low lighting in many scenes, while others have noted the costuming choices taken with certain characters. As of the time of writing, the trailer is trending on YouTube with over 17 million views and 388,000 likes in around 24 hours, with some comments seeing tens of thousands of likes. Given past excitement for the adaptation and this current fervor, future trailers will probably maintain the ongoing hype over the coming months before the film releases in July of 2026.
