A “reimagining” of the original classic video game, Tomb Raider, was revealed at this year’s Game Awards. The soon-to-be-released reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider, entitled Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, will be released sometime in 2026, which, not so coincidentally, is also the 30th anniversary of the original game. The game franchise, which has spawned three movies and an upcoming television series, features the intrepid female explorer, Lara Croft, in her worldwide hunt for various treasures and artifacts a la Indiana Jones. The game producers, Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Studios, are shying away from calling it a reboot, apparently to allow for some changes in story and gameplay. The game is being built by developer Flying Wild Hog (Shadow Warrior) using Unreal Engine 5.
It was also revealed at this year’s Game Awards that fans of the iconic video game franchise can also expect another entry in the franchise, entitled Tomb Raider: Catalyst, sometime in 2027. Both games will be available on multiple platforms, including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
