Chuck E. Cheese is expanding into the world of adult entertainment. A news release has revealed that the family entertainment chain is opening a new chain of teen and adult-oriented arcades in around eight states: Chuck’s Arcade. These arcades will feature a mix of Arcade games, both old and new, and be “overseen” by Chuck and other members of Munch’s Make Believe Band. “Chuck’s Arcade is a natural evolution — an opportunity to extend our arcade legacy into new formats that engage both lifelong fans and a new generation through a curated mix of retro classics and cutting-edge experiences,” said CEO David McKillips.
The arcade scene is much different from when Chuck E. Cheese launched in 1977, and while it hasn’t gone away, it hasn’t reached the mainstream heights of the golden age and Street Fighter booms. Despite this, several chains, such as Dave of Buster’s, have been doing well, while Chuck E. Cheese itself has been surviving bankruptcy and looking for new revenue. This new venture seems likely to catch the adult market catered to by D&B, while offering nostalgic fans something new. “No two locations are exactly alike,” Claims the company, and we might just have to check it out ourselves.
