Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller Sinners stunned audiences worldwide much like his Marvel Studios films. However, there is a fun Marvel Easter Egg of sorts in the movie: the costumes. Sev Ohanian, a producer on the film, recently shared a surprising detail: many of the costumes came from an abandoned concept for the still technically in-production Blade film.

“Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting,” Ohanian shared in a recent interview with ScreenCrush. “At one point, that movie was going to deal with, and she’d talked about this before, but at one point that film was going to deal with the past around the same era as Sinners She happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes, and it was like, ‘Yo, we got to shoot this movie like tomorrow.’ And Marvel was generous enough and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at price.” He went on to add that many of the clothes were utilized by background actors, while the principal players, including Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld, were treated to a new wardrobe for their roles.

Everyone loves a story where everything works out, especially in instances where fans are treated to what could have been with the upcoming Blade project starring Mahershala Ali. The connection between Sinners and the Blade project adds an exciting layer to the film.

Sinners opened on April 18 and grossed $364 million worldwide, becoming the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2025 so far.

The upcoming Blade film was announced in 2019 but has faced a set of challenges, from scriptwriting to determining who will helm the director’s chair. Ali has told Variety in the past he remains eager to step into the role of Marvel’s daywalking vampire killer.
