The next subgenre of horror games is undoubtedly the one centered around the slasher icon. We’ve already seen games around Leatherface and Jason, but we have upcoming games centered around characters like Pinhead, Art the Clown, and, of course, Michael Myers.

Michael is getting two games, actually, one of them with the direct involvement of John Carpenter.

For the one coming out sooner, we actually got some game footage dropped on, fittingly enough, Halloween. It delves into the single player story, which will fill in a few holes from the original film, such as how Michael actually escaped Smith’s Grove Sanitarium. While the gameplay in the trailer states that it’s not final, it gives us a good idea of what we can expect: namely, Michael slashing people who don’t want to die. One of the interesting powers is “Shape Jump”, where Michael will turn invisible while he moves, supposedly solving the question of how he seems to teleport.

As a horror fan, this also ruins the “Michael is scary because he’s a mix between the boy-next-door and an unstoppable force”, but what do I know?

Whether this is a Friday the 13th: The Game clone or a new thing, it’s hopefully going to be a good time. What is for sure is that the developers have gone to great lengths to recreate 1978 Haddonfield, so that’s always nice. Hopefully, they’ll put that much care into the game itself.

Halloween: The Video Game is due to be released on September 8th, 2026, for PC and Consoles.
