Asajj Ventress has returned from the dead in the newest episode of The Bad Batch. In episode 9, “The Harbinger”, she turns out to be Fennec’s contact and gives some insight as to what an m-count is. She even goes as far as to test Omega’s m-count. Nika Futterman, the voice of Asajj Ventress, has recently spoken out about her character's return.

The last time we saw Asajj Ventress in animation, she was a bounty hunter aiding Ahsoka Tano, who was accused of bombing the Jedi temple. Ten years later, Futterman received an email from her agent. Lucasfilm wanted her back as Asajj Ventress. She says, “It was really surprising and very exciting." She goes on to talk more about the character and how “she’s fun, interesting, and multi-layered. She’s all these things I wanted to continue on doing. So, of course, I was like ‘Yeah baby! What is next?"

For those unaware, Ventress met her end in Star Wars Dark Disciple (2015)She was later buried on her homeworld of Dathomir, thanks to Obi-Wan Kenobi and Quinlan Vos. The newest episode did not explain how she returned, but series creator Dave Filoni, executive producer Brad Rau, and executive producer/head writer Jennifer Corbett had a plan. Rau mentions that Ventress is one of their all-time favorite characters and that when Dave brought up the idea of bringing her back, they were all excited about the opportunity. Corbett reveals that the story of how she survived will be revealed in future content.

Futterman says they were able to find a way to continue her story, and that “the fans really love this character and they want her around, which makes me very happy because I love her too”. Futterman goes on to talk about how we got to see a side of Ventress that we have not seen before. She also says how “there’s some part of her that is more like the good guys, that she's capable of using her mental powers for good." Rau said that one of the highlights of season 3 was seeing Futterman reprise her role as Ventress.

Even though Ventress walked away from the clones at the end of the episode, it feels like her future is wide open. Futterman even says that Ventress could do anything, and become anything. “I think we’re going to find out a lot of things about a lot of things, and I think we’re all going to have all kinds of fun adventures."
