'Octet' Musical Film Adaptation To Be Directed By Lin-Manuel Miranda

A Tony-winning auteur is returning behind the camera! Multi-hypnate filmmaker, songwriter, and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda has set his sophomore directorial effort, a feature film adaptation of the acclaimed musical, Octet. Octet is a chamber-music piece by Dave Malloy. Malloy is best known for writing the acclaimed musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has remained a prominent figure in the world of film and theater. He broke out in 2008 with the acclaimed stage musical In the Heights, which won him a Tony. In 2015, Miranda would receive worldwide recognition with Hamilton, which became one of the biggest pop culture phenomenons of the 21st Century. In 2021, Lin-Manuel Miranda made his feature directorial debut with the film Tick, Tick… BOOM!, an adaptation of the musical of the same name by Jonathan Larson. Starring Andrew Garfield, the film recounts the events surrounding Jonathan Larson's attempt to develop his first musical. The film received highly positive reviews from critics who praised Garfield’s performance, the editing, emotional depth, and Miranda’s direction. The film received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor and Best Film Editing. Miranda himself received a DGA Award nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in First-Time Theatrical Feature Film, though he lost to Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Lost Daughter. Since its release, Tick, Tick… BOOM! has been hailed as one of the greatest movie musicals of the 21st Century by many prominent publications.
