Pedro Pascal says that Grogu’s incredibly long lifespan is a reality Din Djarin has begun to accept and prepare for in The Mandalorian and Grogu. The actor, who is the face and voice of Mando, spent a considerable time in the suit for the movie. At the recent UK Fan Event Q&A, Pascal revealed that Din Djarin knows that he won’t be around to protect Grogu, who will outlive him by many centuries. This has added layers of emotional depth to their precious relationship, but Djarin is practically dealing with this predicament. Din is making sure Grogu is ready to protect himself one day in a dangerous galaxy by taking him on missions. Pascal says the duo is partners, and "Grogu is on every mission, on every adventure, they are side by side. And it's sentimental, because Din Djarin knows that this creature will outlive him, and I think that, existentially, he's very, very focused on making sure that he can survive in a world without him.”
Even though Din wants Grogu to achieve his full potential, it’s not easy for the Mandalorian to let him go, no matter how strong the kid is. Pascal explains it beautifully that, "of course, the power that Grogu has surpasses Mando's by a lot. And yet none of us wants to let go of our child, and none of us wants to keep that child from growing into everything that they can do. So that's really, I think, the very, very textured relationship and story that they're able to tell on a thrill ride that you cannot believe." Pascal seems highly invested in the duo’s adorable relationship and does a wonderful job explaining the emotional intricacies of their bond. Recent promos have hinted that the movie could mark the end of Din Djarin as a character, and some fans believe this is to prepare everyone for his possible death. However, it could just be a way of showing that, as a parent, Din now understands that his time to teach Grogu is limited, as is his time in the galaxy. Fans will see Din and Grogu again when The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22.
