For 18 years, voice actor Samantha Kelly provided the iconic voices for Princess Peach and Toad for the Super Mario Games on the Nintendo DS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and Switch. Kelly’s voice was heard in Luigi's Mansion, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros not only as the iconic princess in the pink dress and heart-shaped bangs, but also as two of the Mushroom Kingdom's “biggest roles”. According to IGN, Kelly’s characters “took centre stage”, such as in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, or last year's Princess Peach: Showtime! Given Kelly’s tenure as Princess Peach and Toad, respectively, her absence in the recent Mario Kart World game during the Nintendo Switch 2 launch was felt hard by fans.

The loss of Kelly as Princess Peach was officially announced by Kelly on her Instagram page, recounting how she wished she could have voiced Peach and Toad “forever”. Nonetheless, Kelly wrote to her fans that she was grateful to have voiced such iconic characters and prays “they live forever no matter who voices them.”

Like Kelly, fans hope Princess Peach and Toad will live on in their upcoming video games. Currently, it's unclear who will take over as the voice of Peach and Toad in Mario Kart World and other Mario games going forward. No matter who voices the two characters, Kelly’s voice lives on in previous Mario games, not to mention her appearances in Lego Super Mario toys, Nintendo's Super Nintendo World theme parks, and in Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Movie as other Toad characters. It will be pink high heels and large brown shoes to fill.
