Filmmaker Ryan Coogler has had a fairly successful and notable career thus far. The creator has remained busy over the years, handling both animated and live-action productions. Most recently, his horror film Sinners (2025) was screened at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery during a Cinespia event. In an interview with Variety, Coogler discussed his The X-Files reboot, Sinners (2025), and the talent of Michael B. Jordan.
The director explained the connection between The X-Files and his mother, “Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom. My mom means the world to me — she’s actually here tonight — so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans.” Coogler continued, “My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.” What’s been done so far promises something interesting to watch.

The project is still in development and has yet to attach any official names to the cast. There are, however, rumors floating around, one of the most popular being that actress Danielle Deadwyler will be a lead investigator. When asked about her status as a project member, Coogler said, reportedly with a laugh, “I can neither confirm or deny.”
Coogler’s most recent film, Sinners (2025), was featured at a Cinespia event. It is the first to be featured in the same year the film was released. On being a part of this event, the director said, “I’m so excited. This is a dream come true. This is my favorite event in Los Angeles…Cinespia is such an L.A.-specific event and so unique. It was always a dream of mine to make a movie that could play here.”
Two of the main characters of Sinners (2025) are Smoke and Stack, twin brothers who end up on opposing sides when one is turned. Michael B. Jordan played both of them, generating Oscar buzz not for the first time on a Coogler project. The director praised Jordan’s performance in the dual role, “I do think he stepped it up to another level on this. We asked him to do this difficult thing technically, playing two different characters, but it also was a performance that we needed to have the backstory that we had before to pull this off.” Sinners (2025) is available to stream on HBO Max.
