SDCC Dropped This Exclusive Preview Of A Highly Anticipated Villain For Season 3 Of 'Rings Of Power'

On Friday, July 24, those fortunate enough to be among the 6,500 who attended The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power panel at San Diego Comic-Con very likely got what they came for.
Moderated by High King Gil-galad himself, series star Benjamin Walker, the series showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay were joined by cast members Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Míriel), Owain Arthur (Durin IV), Ismael Cruz Cordova (Arondir), Charlie Vickers (Sauron), Daniel Weyman (Gabdalf), and Jamie Campbell Bower, who is one of the newcomers of the series’ third season.

Aside from news and discussions, the panel brought a teaser trailer and a behind-the-scenes featurette that gave the fans a glimpse of what to expect from the upcoming The Rings of Power season.
As is to be expected from a show of that magnitude, the crew worked with every tool and technique available to them, seamlessly blending practical effects with CGI. This is especially true when it comes to the massive creatures that will either help or fight the show’s heroes, like the Mûmakil, a giant elephant-like beast with war armour that carries Gandalf through the desert, or the fell beasts, flying monsters that Tolkien compared to the prehistoric pterodactyls.
But the probably most anticipated creature in season three is the Balrog, the demonic monster that first appeared in live-action in Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. It’s no surprise that the creature will have a similar look in The Rings of Power as it had in the feature films.
What is more surprising is that the monster will actually have dialogue in season three, and that it is voiced by Simon Pegg (Mission: Impossible, Star Trek), who has a bit of a history with Middle-earth, as his father used to read The Hobbit to young Simon when he was a kid.
Season three of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on November 11 on Amazon Prime.
