After Star Wars: Hunters was taken offline in 2025, and with the recently revealed Fate of the Old Republic likely to take several years of development (even if its creator firmly believes it will not take 5 years), things were looking a little shaky for Star Wars gaming. But 2026 is still shaping up to be one of the best in a long time for Star Wars gamers.
In addition to Bit Reactor’s Zero Company (which, despite going radio silent is still currently stated to be releasing in 2026), Star Wars: Galactic Racer is the other game planned to release this year, in 2026. Set in the Star Wars galaxy after the Galactic Civil War, players will be taking control of a mysterious racer called Shade and will navigate them across several familiar and new locales in the Star Wars galaxy. At the February 12th Playstation State of Play, we got a new trailer for Galactic Racer which showed us a more visceral look at the gameplay and racing mechanics, including ramming. Reception to the trailer has been very positive, bolstered by the surprise appearance of Ben Quadinaros in the final seconds of the trailer.
The Episode I podracer’s appearance matches a similar placement for Sebulba in the initial announcement trailer, though the gameplay trailer for Galactic Racer seemingly hints that we will get to control Sebulba’s podracer in some capacity. This writer thinks it will be in the form of a “story” sequence, where Sebulba will recount a race against his rival Quadinaros, that players can play out. The location in question seemed to be Tatooine, suggesting it may even be a retelling of the Boona Eve race from Episode 1, though it may also be a different event which occurred later.

In addition to the trailer itself, StarWars.com posted an article which highlighted some new plot details. Players already knew they were controlling Shade, and they had a rival named Kestar Bool. But the trailer reveals that the Galactic League, the racing circuit players will be part of, is run by an individual called Darius Pax, a boisterous figure heard in both trailers. Kestar has apparently muscled in and now dominates the League through underhanded tactics, leading Pax to recruit Shade to take Kestar down because the mysterious racer has an equally mysterious grudge against the Bool family.
There’s a lot of exciting stuff to come for Galactic Racer, and the gameplay trailer once again ended on the broad, though promised date, of a release in 2026.
