Get the flutes and violins ready! It’s been confirmed that award-winning film composer Alexandre Desplat will provide the score for The Social Reckoning.

To put Desplat’s filmography into words would be difficult, as he’s one of the busiest and most in-demand film composers alive. Since 1997, there hasn’t been a year in which his signature style hasn’t graced a movie. He’s best known for his collaborations with auteur filmmakers such as Guillermo del Toro, Wes Anderson, George Clooney, Greta Gerwig, Ben Affleck, and Stephen Frears. Throughout his almost 30-year career, Desplat has earned 12 Academy Award nominations for Best Original Score for The Queen, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The King’s Speech, Argo, Philomena, The Imitation Game, Isle of Dogs, Little Women, and, most recently, Frankenstein. He won his first for The Grand Budapest Hotel in 2015 and won his second for The Shape of Water in 2018. Desplat’s other notable scores include The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2, Godzilla, and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.

The Social Reckoning is the upcoming “companion piece” to the critically acclaimed David Fincher film The Social Network. The film is written and directed by Aaron Sorkin (who wrote the first film) in his fourth directorial effort. Sorkin is best known for writing the screenplays for A Few Good MenThe American President, Moneyball, Steve Jobs, Molly’s Game, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Being the Ricardos (the latter 3 he also directed). Sorkin has received six Oscar nominations for screenwriting, winning Best Adapted Screenplay for The Social Network in 2011. The Social Reckoning will be the first film directed by Sorkin not to be scored by Daniel Pemberton, who is currently scoring Masters of the Universe.

The Social Reckoning will be released on October 9th, 2026.
