Is Lucasfilm still hungover from the success of Andor Season 2? Although it's great that fans and critics have appreciated the show, it seems Lucasfilm hasn't moved on from it. With The Mandalorian and Grogu less than a year away, promotion has yet to start, and fans are feeling antsy. The Mandalorian and Grogu is the first Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker premiered in 2019. That's the same year The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ and launched the streaming platform to great success. Its success led to the creation of other Star Wars series such as Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, and The Book of Boba Fett. The success of the show led to dozens of Emmy Award nominations and various prestigious honors, including the top of Nielsen's ranking of original series with over a billion minutes watched.
Now that production has been wrapped up for months, and the movie is roughly 8 months away, you have to wonder what Lucasfilm is waiting for. Why haven't they started promoting the next Star Wars movie? Are they confident it will perform well without promotion, or do they just not care? Online, Din and Grogu fans are doing a better job of promoting Lucasfilm's next release as they await official footage. So far, clips of the film have been limited to conventions, including Star Wars Celebration and Destination D23.

This is an unusual strategy, and while Disney may attach the trailer to one of their upcoming movie releases, such as Tron: Ares and Avatar: Fire and Ash, there's no reason not to release an official poster, confirm the cast, or reveal who's composing the soundtrack. Ludwig Göransson is the composer behind The Mandalorian's unique space western sounds, but he has been a busy man lately and wasn't available for Season 3. Everyone would love to have him back to compose the movie's soundtrack. Goransson recently won an Academy Award for Oppenheimer.
Then there's the issue of the Star Wars Official X account. Fans have complained that their posts often get ignored by the Star Wars Official, while fans of other series like Andor are acknowledged regularly. What's more troubling was their silence on The Mandalorian's 5th Anniversary, when all the Star Wars official accounts posted tributes to the series and its lead character, except the main account on X and its admin, who is affectionately known as the 'Swagmin' by fans. Fans were hurt, as The Mandalorian is the series that helped launch Disney+, and its success not only paved the way for more Star Wars live-action series, but also many hit Marvel series, including Loki and WandaVision.
On YouTube, the story is much the same. The official channel continues to post Andor content, but hasn't bothered to share a single video to hype up fans of their upcoming theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu. With so much riding on the success of the next Star Wars film, this behavior raises many questions. Lucasfilm's silence has begun to border on disrespect, and they need to start catering to Mando fans again. Andor was great, but Andor is over, and the next big release is only 9 months away. It's time to start the promotion and hype, because some of your loyal fans are beginning to lose patience.
