Big Update To The Corsair Factions of 'Warhammer 40K'

The rumors and teases have ultimately paid off as, at the New Year Warhammer Preview show, it’s a pirate’s life for…a bunch of people, apparently!

The return of major Warhammer 40K villain Huron Blackheart, previously revealed as a teaser to excite people for the Preview, has been further expanded by the arrival of his command squad. Made up of horrible marauder commanders with Space Marine and Imperium backgrounds, the squad also stands out for the inclusion of an alien mercenary and her companion animal in service to Huron. Alongside this command squad comes a range of new units and upgrade kits for existing models to help represent Huron’s Red Corsairs renegade Space Marine faction.

Standing against this tide of marauding terror are other marauders, the Aeldari Corsairs, led by their most notable commander, Prince Yriel. He has an excellent new model, and joins other new Corsair models in the form of Skyreavers, jetpack-wielding warriors, a new character called Kharseth the Aethyrmancer, and an upgraded and improved kit for an Aeldari vehicle, which can be built in two forms to represent two different aerial fighter craft. Some of these new or refurbished models can also be built or decorated to serve as Craftworld forces.

Lastly, where shall these two piratical forces be battling? That would be the Maelstrom, a region of the 40K galaxy well known for the role it played in the start of the Badab War, and Huron’s fall. Similar to the announcement of 500 Worlds: Titus, which has now been released, these new forces will be fighting in a campaign titled The Maelstrom, with the first book called “Lair of the Tyrant.” Accompanying the two Corsair groups will be countless other factions in competition with each other and the threats of such a hostile vortex of Warp energy. Two Battalion-style boxes (again similar to those released with 500 Worlds) have been revealed, likely representing two of the notable subfactions to be involved in The Maelstrom’s first campaign book, being the Drukhari and the Leagues of Votann.

With Warhammer 10th Edition probably coming to a close before the end of 2026, this preview for the first few months of the year is incredibly exciting. More announcements are surely on their way, and we’ll keep you apprised of what is dropping out of the Warp.
