Unlike the protagonists, the Final Destination series has experienced a revival in the past year. The series was a horror staple of the 2000s, with five entries from 2000 to 2011, but it remained silent after that. Talks of a sixth film persisted long after, with some thoughts of it being a reboot, released directly to HBO Max, or even just a direct sequel. Finally, it was confirmed that a sixth film was being worked on, and in 2025, we were treated to Final Destination: Bloodlines. The film was a smashing success, both critically and financially, gaining franchise highs in both regards. Unfortunately, it was the last film of horror icon Tony Todd, as he died of stomach cancer not long after completing his scene. With the success of the film, a seventh was discussed almost immediately. Now it’s confirmed.
Lori Evans Taylor, the co-writer of Bloodlines, is returning to write the new installment, so that bodes well. If the script for the next one is as solid as the sixth film, we’re in for a real treat. While not perfect, it gave us some really great characters, usually not the series’ strong point, and some kills that instantly went down as some of the series’ best.
I’m looking at you, MRI machine.
So far, no details have been released regarding the seventh film, so there’s no telling when it will come out. I, however, can’t wait.
