HE HAS THE POWER! And the music! Empire has confirmed that award-winning film composer Daniel Pemberton will provide the score for Masters of the Universe.

One of the most prolific and in-demand composers in the game right now, Pemberton has had steady work for the last two decades. He broke out on film with his scores for Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs and Guy Richie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. in 2015. Since then, he’s worked with a wide array of auteur filmmakers, including Aaron Sorkin (Molly’s Game, The Trial of the Chicago 7, Being the Ricardos), Ridley Scott (All the Money in the World), Edward Norton (Motherless Brooklyn), David O. Russell (Amsterdam), Celine Song (Materialists), and Ari Aster (Eddington). He is also no stranger to franchise fare, as he’s provided the scores for the Enola Holmes, The Bad Guys, and Spider-Verse franchises in addition to Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. In addition to Masters of the Universe, Pemberton is also set to compose the scores for Kristoffer Borgli’s The Drama and Phil Lord & Chris Miller’s Project Hail Mary this year.

Masters of the Universe is the latest attempt to bring the world of He-Man to the big screen. Based on the popular toyline and animated series of the same name from the 1980s, Masters of the Universe has finally escaped decades of development hell. Travis Knight acts as director, his first film since 2018’s Bumblebee. Knight is best known for directing the stop-motion animated film Kubo and the Two Strings, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. He also directed a new animated feature, Wildwood, set for release this October. Masters of the Universe will be the first film Knight has directed that is not scored by Dario Marianelli. The cast of Masters of the Universe will consist of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camilla Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms.

Masters of the Universe will draw its sword into theaters on June 5th.
