As new MCU movies like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* lead into the next big Avengers films, some are already thinking past the current phase. Kevin Feige has a 10-year plan for the X-Men. While there have been nods to them in recent films, the X-Men have been largely absent from the movies, except for the Deadpool films. This comes as no surprise, as last year Feige said, “I think you will see that this continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and the X-Men.” Feige described the situation as a “dream come true.”
Before the dream, however, Marvel had to deal with logistical issues and a bit of superhero fatigue from audiences. The company released many movies and TV shows to the point where some fans had difficulty keeping up. Even Feige was strained with all the projects. According to the Wall Street Journal, “Feige recently told colleagues he agreed to the plan because of a zealousness to tell more stories and a desire to be an ‘excellent corporate citizen.’ It turned out to be a mistake.”

Other executives had trouble connecting with Feige, as some had to chase him down the hallway to receive feedback. Sometimes this feedback resulted in weeks of work being thrown out in an already overwhelmed studio. The studio's decision to scale back production and focus on fewer but higher quality projects seems to be the right choice early reactions to Thunderbolts*.
Some names have been brought up to play potential characters like Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, and Mr. Sinister, but those are mere rumors at this point. However, in the Avengers: Doomsday cast announcements, six X-Men are listed in the cast. Marvel fans have been waiting for official MCU X-Men movies for a long time, and with Feige in charge, that dream is growing closer to reality.
