There’s bad news for Catwoman fans as Zoe Kravitz will not reprise her role as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II. According to sources close to the production, Kravitz won’t be returning for the sequel, although this is unlikely to be the end of her character in the franchise. At the end of The Batman, Catwoman leaves Gotham to start a new life, as she and Batman go their separate ways. The latter decided to embrace hope instead of vengeance. Their separation may not be permanent, as Selina Kyle could always return to Gotham and play the Bat’s ally or opponent. For now, Kravitz apparently doesn’t have a role in The Batman’s sequel, but Scarlett Johansson is in negotiations for a part in the film, which begins filming next spring. Johansson’s role is currently a mystery, with speculation rife that she may play Batman’s love interest, who may prove to be a villain later on.
Johansson has already been part of several franchises, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where she portrayed Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow. She was just seen in Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World Rebirth, which performed brilliantly at the box office, and there’s news that Johansson will appear in a remake of The Exorcist. Despite all her box office success, Johansson has given critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated performances in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. DC Studios and Matt Reeves have yet to confirm that Scarlett Johansson is in discussions for a role in the highly anticipated sequel. The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, is tentatively scheduled to release in theaters on October 1, 2027.
