As its theatrical run comes to a close, Lucasfilm has revealed when The Mandalorian and Grogu will be available to watch at home, either digitally or on physical media.
Starting July 21, the Jon Favreau-directed movie starring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as the New Republic officer Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as the voice of Rotta the Hutt will be available for purchase on various streaming platforms, including Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Lucasfilm has yet to announce when the movie will premiere on Disney+.
On August 25, The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released on physical home media, both as 4K Ultra HD and on Blu-ray. There will be a standard, a SteelBook, and a special Beskar Collector’s Edition that includes special packaging and metal posters.
Both the digital and the physical releases will include an audio commentary by Jon Favera and the following featurettes:
"Crafting The Mandalorian and Grogu": A behind-the-scenes featurette showing how the artists created the puppetry, miniatures, sound design, and the visual effects of the film to bring the worlds, characters, and creatures of The Mandalorian and Grogu to life.
"Biomes — From Snow to Swamp": Jon Favreau and his crew describe how they created a pair of brand-new worlds that may seem a touch familiar to fans of the original Star Wars trilogy and how they constructed both snowy landscapes and a living swamp from the ground up.
"Welcome to Shakari": For the Outer Rim moon, the film’s crew created an entirely new Star Wars city that might look just like Coruscant at first glance, but is actually quite different.
"Dejarik for Real": What started as a cute little holochess game on board the Millennium Falcon in 1977 has been turned into a deadly arena with life-size monsters for The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The film debuted on May 22, so it will only be two months between its theatrical and its streaming premiere. One reason for this short timeframe will likely be its rather disappointing box-office gross. After opening with $82 million during its first weekend, the film has (as of the time of writing) earned just over $340 million, which might or might not be enough to avoid a financial loss, but is surely not the numbers that Disney and Lucasfilm had hoped for the first new Star Wars film in nearly 7 years. The home media releases will likely push the film’s revenue upwards by a few million dollars.
