Tony Gilroy Discusses A Scrapped 'Andor' Episode About K-2SO

Tony Gilroy has revealed that the introduction of K-2SO in Star Wars: Andor was almost a standalone horror episode. K-2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk) was an integral part of Rogue One, and fans have finally witnessed the droid’s origin story. In Andor season two’s third arc, Cassian smashed K-2SO to bits and then gave the parts to the rebels on Yavin.
However, according to Tony Gilroy, his brother Dan Gilroy wrote a script for a missing episode 209 that gave K-2SO different beginnings. “They had to bring this huge ugly tanker ship to Yavin, and there was a KX unit that was trapped inside there hunting. It was sort of like a monster movie with K2 on it. It was really cool.”
The episode was never filmed, cut as the budget had already spiralled to a massive 290.9 million dollars, Gilroy said, “We could not afford to do it. It was made clear that it was out of the range, so we had to abandon that and consolidate things.”
The showrunner had been hinting that there was a horror project in the works for some time. Let’s hope that the missing Andor plot line was not what he was referring to, as it would have been Star Wars first attempt at the genre. Hopefully, there are other projects in the pipeline.
