This is a call to action. A fellow nerd needs help from the rest of the Star Wars fandom (and any other franchises that want to join in).  Mark Levy, aka Player 100, joined season two of Squid Game: The Challenge with hopes to use the 4.56 million dollar prize pot to fund the ultimate Star Wars wedding for him and his girlfriend (also a massive fan) at Disneyland.

Help Me, Star Wars Fandom. You’re My Only Hope!

Squid Game: The Challenge is a survival game show based on the hit Netflix series. 456 players are whittled down to a single winner who wins the life-changing jackpot. Mark Levy made it through three games and played honestly rather than using psychological tactics.  Mark’s number, 100, is also significant for Squid Game, as in season 2 of the show, he was one of the finalists.

However, Mark’s final game, Catch, caused controversy. Another player insinuated that no one would throw a ball to him because of how he looked and told Mark so, in front of a large crowd. The scene is cringeworthy to watch and was obviously humiliating for Player 100.

“They’re going to judge Mark a lot. They’re going to judge Mark harder than the rest of us. […] People judge you Mark, and if they judge you, they’re not going to throw to you.”

Another player stepped in, noting Mark’s distress and calling out the inappropriateness of the comments. Mark stepped away, but the rest of his team showed support, so he felt able to return to the game.

I mean, I went through a lot of therapy as a kid to become the adult we see here today because I was bullied a lot in elementary and middle school. And that room looked so much like the gym from my elementary school that I was like really, truly honoured that [my team] brought me back in” - Levy

When Mark took his turn to catch, he was obviously more nervous than usual, so heartbreakingly, he was eliminated. Player 100 was having a great game otherwise, so who knows how far our fellow Star Wars fan might have gone if it wasn’t for this blip?  His girlfriend COULD be deciding between a Padmé and a Leia cosplay for her wedding dress, and Mark COULD be picking out which lightsabers he wants for their Duel of the Fates ‘first dance’.

If only there was some way to fix that…?

If You Strike Me Down, Then I Will Become More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine!

This is how we can help.

One eliminated player will have the opportunity to return for season 3 of Squid Game: The Challenge. This is decided by a viewer vote that concludes on the 23rd of November. Mark has already been voted into the top five, so hopefully, with some support from the fandom, we can bring him back. Darth Vader didn’t stay down. The Emperor didn’t stay down. Even Qui-Gon Jinn and Ahmed Best came back eventually with some persuasion. We can do this.
