'Warhammer' Skulls Showcase Reveals New Games Are Coming

On May 22nd, 2025, Games Workshop held its Skulls Showcase for its ninth year. A livestream designed to highlight the gaming options the Warhammer brand has for its fans, the event this year included various pieces of information on upcoming updates to existing video game titles such as Space Marine 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. However, a series of new games, or greater information about upcoming titles, also dropped.
The first and most prominent was the reveal of a new game entitled Dark Heresy. It is being created by Owlcat Games, the same studio that produced the recent Rogue Trader. Unlike that title, which focuses on fulfilling the fantasy of playing as a titular Rogue Trader in the 40K galaxy, this new title will instead focus on fulfilling the fantasies of being part of the Inquisition. The trailer showed off some early footage alongside some fun artwork and an introduction to the game’s apparent setting, but it does not yet have a release date.

The next title of note was the announcement of a sequel to Boltgun. The first game was a pixelated callback to the original Doom and other similar titles and was enjoyed by many fans. The sequel, which has similar visuals, has a release date of 2026. Alongside this announcement was the shadowdrop of a smaller Boltgun adventure, Boltgun – Words of Vengeance, which is a typing action game where you must quickly type an array of Warhammer and combat terms to help keep your Space Marine hero alive against his enemies. This was available to play, for free, immediately.
Mechanicus 2, while not a newly announced title, also got a brief highlight for one major reason: the first appearance of the most recent Warhammer 40K army, the Leagues of Votann, in a video game. Essentially, Warhammer 40K’s dwarves, these high-tech excavators and prospectors, join the Necron and Adeptus Mechanicus in conflict on the world of Hekateus IV. Whether the Votann are here to help or hinder the Mechanicus, though, remains to be seen. The game currently has no release date.
While they were not new titles, it would be remiss not to mention the two enhanced versions of past Warhammer games releasing soon. One is a heavily upgraded version of the original Space Marine, which releases this June, and the other is a definitive edition of Dawn of War, currently without a release date.
Lastly, a new mobile game was announced called Supremacy: Warhammer 40,000, created by the developers behind Supremacy: 1914. The game will allow players to command one of four factions seeking to gain control of the world of Vigilus, a planet hotly contested in the recent lore of Warhammer 40K.
The reactions to this year’s Skulls presentation have been somewhat mixed, partially because of the sheer profusion of ads for Warhammer merchandise peppered across the presentation, while other players disliked the strong emphasis placed on mobile offerings over proper console releases. Still, it cannot be said that Warhammer is slowing down in the gaming department, and 2026 appears to be shaping up as a good year for Warhammer video games.
