The upcoming months will see the release of two new Star Wars video games: Star Wars: Zero Company, a single-player turn-based tactics game, will hit shelves on August 27, and Star Wars: Galactic Racer will come out on October 6.

But beyond that, work has already begun on the next big entry in the Star Wars video games portfolio: Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which was announced with a cinematic trailer at the Game Awards 2025 on December 11.

Helmed by Casey Hudson and his Arcanaut Studios (together with Lucasfilm Games), SWFOTOR is described as the “spiritual successor” to 2003’s Knights of the Old Republic, on which Hudson worked as a Core Game Designer, Producer/Project Director, and Concept Artist. In the single-player RPG, the player will take the role of a “Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth”, as the official press release for the game explains.

Although the game is still in its early stages of development and the only timeframe for its release so far is, according to Hudson, “before 2030”, there are reportedly already around 50 people working on the game, including developers, level designers, and animators.

Back in March, Pascal Blanché announced that he had joined Arcanaut Studios as an Art Director, and now veteran games writer Tony Elias has entered the company as the game’s narrative director.

Elias and Hudson are no strangers to each other as they have worked together on Humaoid Origin, a game that never saw the light of day.

More interestingly, Elias has worked on Monolith Productions’ Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, Quantum Break, the Wonder Woman game (which was also never released), and most recently on Cyberpunk 2, which has been in development for around a year and a half.

“Happy to share that I’ve joined Arcanaut Studios as Narrative Director!” the writer spread the news on his LinkedIn profile. “ll be working with Casey Hudson and a wonderful team of new and familiar faces on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic — the spiritual successor to KOTOR.”

Lucasfilm has yet to confirm if Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which will be released for PC and current-gen consoles, will be part of the current lore or be a Legends story.
