A side by side look at what Ahsoka and Anakin were doing during Order 66.

One of the best things about new Star Wars content is that it can amplify how incredible the older content is. Not only does the newer content give us a more in-depth look at what else was going on, but it also allows us to get to know characters more, which makes their downfalls all the more impactful. In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, I wanted to share the absolute best way to watch the film. I originally came across this idea on a random X thread, but my husband and I ended up making a few changes to make the timeline flow better.

You’re going to need access to the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars for this, so I highly recommend using Disney+ because it makes it so easy to switch between content. To start, you are going to watch Clone Wars season 7 episode 9. This episode sees Ahsoka reunite with Anakin and Obi-Wan and kicks off the Siege of Mandalore. After this episode, you are going to start Revenge of the Sith and watch until 50:19. Trust me, this is a lot easier than it seems! Next, you’re going to watch The Clone Wars season 7 episode 10, which features the beginning of Ahsoka and Maul’s stunning battle on Mandalore.

After the episode you are going to start Revenge of the Sith where you stopped it and watch to 1:25:14. Quick note, the best way to keep track of the time is to set a timer for the amount of time you are supposed to watch the film, and then start it right when you hit play. Next, you are going to go back to The Clone Wars and watch season 7 episode 11, which is when Ahsoka feels Anakin’s fall to the dark side. After this episode, you will watch Revenge of the Sith from where you stopped through to the end. After the end of the film, you will watch The Clone Wars season 7 finale, which shows us what Ahsoka was going through while Anakin was battling Obi-Wan, and what happened after the loss of Padme.

While this watch order might seem like a lot, it is 100% worth it. Not only do you get to see Ahsoka in the context of the final film, but you also see more of the impact that Anakin’s fall had on the people who knew him best. I didn’t think that you could make Revenge of the Sith any better or more impactful, but this watch order does just that. Getting to see the Siege of Mandalore happening at the same time as Anakin’s downfall, and then seeing Ahsoka battling the clones at the same time that Anakin is battling Obi-Wan was an experience I will never forget. The Clone Wars is canon, but it can sometimes be difficult to figure out where everything fits. This watch order perfectly fits the series with the prequels, and I won’t ever watch these episodes or this film any other way. I do want to give a friendly warning that watching it like this makes it significantly sadder, so make sure you have some tissues at the ready!

The Clone Wars and every Star Wars film are available to stream on Disney+.
