Love Hearts

As we get closer to Valentine’s Day, many of us want to watch as many rom-coms as possible! This can be really difficult though since it feels like there are thousands of rom-coms, and if we are being honest, they are not all created equal. Rom-coms are definitely hit-or-miss, so I have decided to make it easy for you and give you not only a list of the 10 rom-coms that I think everyone should watch for Valentine’s Day but also a list of where you can find them!

10. ‘Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War’ (2019-2023)

I put this at number 10  because it is a romantic comedy anime series and not a movie. It has three seasons and 43 episodes, so it could be something fun to watch with your friends or special someone over Valentine’s week or weekend. The series follows two high school students who have crushes on each other, but they are trying to make the other confess their feelings first. This show is hysterical and has one of the best first kiss scenes I have ever seen!

Kaguya-Sama: Love is War is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

9. ‘Pretty Woman’ (1990)

This is a classic rom-com that I feel like most of us have seen at least once. It is a fantastic movie, and it never gets old. The film follows a prostitute who is picked up by a wealthy businessman while he is visiting Los Angeles on business. The two soon realize that there is more there than just a physical attraction, but they must overcome multiple hurdles if they want to be together. It is an interesting take on the classic Cinderella story.

Pretty Woman is available to stream on Hulu

8. ‘Fool’s Gold’ (2008)

This is the first Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey film on this list. If you see the two of them in a film, you know that you are in for a good time and tons of laughs! The film follows a treasure-hunting couple who are going through a divorce. The husband finds a clue that may finally lead them to the treasure they have been searching for their entire relationship, but he has no boat and needs her help. Her wealthy boss agrees to help, and the group sets off on the journey of a lifetime. This movie is so much fun and has a fair amount of action mixed in.

Fool’s Gold is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video

7. ‘The Proposal’ (2009)

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are a match made in comedic heaven, and then you add Betty White to the mix, and you have a guaranteed hit! This film follows a Canadian businesswoman who learns that she is about to be deported back to Canada. Her solution? To fake a proposal with her assistant so that she can stay in the country and keep her job. Unfortunately for her, he is getting ready to return home to Alaska to visit his family, and they are a lot more than she bargained for. This is one of my favorite movies and one that everyone should watch at least once!

The Proposal is available to stream on Hulu.

6. ‘The Princess Bride’ (1987)

This is one of the few movies on this list that I assume every comedy fan has seen, but no rom-com list would be complete without it. The film follows a beautiful young princess who falls in love with a stable boy when they are young. After they are separated, he makes it his life’s mission to rescue her and make her his again. This movie is not only super romantic, but it is also one of the most quotable movies of all time!

The Princess Bride is available to stream on Disney+

5. ‘The Quiet Man’ (1952)

The Quiet Man

This is easily one of John Wayne’s best films, and it isn’t a Western! The film follows an American boxer who returns to Ireland in hopes of buying his family’s home and property. Once there, he meets a vivacious redhead who turns his world upside down and steals his heart. This film is amazing and one of the more simplistic and straightforward love stories on this list.

The Quiet Man is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

4. ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ (2018)

Crazy Rich Asians

This is the newest film on the list, and honestly, it is one of the very best. The film follows a young woman who travels to Singapore with her longtime boyfriend to meet his family and celebrate his best friend’s wedding. To her surprise, she learns that her boyfriend’s family is incredibly wealthy and like royalty in Singapore. Unfortunately, his mother is less than welcoming, and it puts a huge strain on their relationship. One of the most interesting things about this movie is that you don’t just get one love story but multiple, and it explores the cultural norms in Singapore and how the old traditions can sometimes clash with new ideals.

Crazy Rich Asians is available to stream on Hulu.

3. ‘How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days’ (2003)

This is probably the most popular rom-com, and it is the second Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey film on this list. It is one of my favorite films ever because it has everything you want in a movie. It is funny, romantic, dramatic, and has a little realism thrown in for good measure. The film follows a young woman who is working on an article for a magazine company and has bragged that she can make a man fall in love her with and then get him to break up with her all within 10 days. At the same time, a man has also bragged to his colleagues that he can make a woman fall head over heels for him in 10 days. In a twist of fate, the two meet at a bar and choose each other as the target for their bets, and what ensues is hilarious – especially the love fern and the couple’s therapy session!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is available to stream on Paramount+

2. ‘How To Steal A Million’ (1966)

This film is so much fun and one of Audrey Hepburn’s best films! The film follows a young woman whose father is an art forger. He has made his wealth by forging famous paintings and then selling them at exuberant rates. All is going well until a sculpture he has forged ends up in a Paris museum, and if experts deem it a fake, he will be arrested and his reputation destroyed. His daughter comes to the rescue by hiring a burglar to help her steal back the sculpture before it can be examined.

How to Steal a Million is available to rent on Amazon Prime Video.

1. ‘Sex And The City The Movie’ (2008)

Sex And The City

I am a huge fan of the Sex and the City series so I might be a little biased, but I think this is one of the best rom-coms of all time. It has everything you want in a rom-com: romance, comedy, drama, and a nice redemption arc. The film follows Carrie and her friends as they prepare for the long-awaited wedding of Carrie and Mr. Big. Unfortunately, Mr. Big messes things up royally after a rough conversation with Miranda the night before the wedding. The rest of the film focuses on what happens when your life is turned upside down and if it is possible to fix friendships and love if you work hard enough.

Sex and the City is available to stream on Max.
