5 Crazy Predictions For 'Maul - Shadow Lord'

Maul, as he now prefers to be called, has appeared in many Star Wars shows and movies, but he wouldn’t have been brought back without a strong narrative purpose. With Lucasfilm greenlighting a second season before the first episodes premiered on Disney+, the remaining episodes are set for high stakes and major revelations. Usually, the first season sets the tone for a series, but it’s still possible that there will be a stunning turn of events by the time this season ends. After all, this show is about Maul, who’s unpredictable and anything but a hero, so the narrative is bound to take an unconventional and unexpected turn.
Here are 5 crazy predictions for this season of Maul: Shadow Lord.
5. Savage Opress Will Return

Somehow, Savage Opress has returned? Well, it’s possible if you consider that Savage and Maul are both Dathomirian. Savage was Maul’s brother, and as sons of Mother Talzin, they’re both familiar with Nightsister magic. Darth Sidious brutally killed Savage on Mandalore, leaving his brother, Maul, absolutely devastated. While they had a difficult relationship as master and apprentice, Maul loved Savage, and losing him was a huge blow. The loss is one of the things that drove Maul’s thirst for vengeance until his death, but is it possible that Maul may use Dathomirian magick to resurrect his dead brother?

That would fit in nicely with recent canon, including shows like Ahsoka, Tales of the Empire, and Tales of the Underworld, which explored Nightsister magick in greater detail. If he uses dark magic to bring Savage back, it would add another tragic layer to their relationship, but this would make sense. In Maul - Shadow Lord, Maul is actively trying to replace Savage with Devon Izara or another apprentice, but no one can replace his own brother, and maybe we haven’t seen the end of him just yet. It’s Star Wars, so no one is ever truly gone!
4. Devon Izara Is Darth Talon
This Devon Izara theory is so popular that the makers of Maul: Shadow Lord were compelled to address it. As it continues to gain traction, the recent episodes seem to hint that Devon Izara might be having second thoughts about her lifestyle as a surviving Jedi under the Empire’s reign. Maul continuously makes her feel like she hasn’t tapped into her true potential, and she, like every Jedi, deserves better than the Empire’s tyranny. Will this push Izara to the dark side? Manipulation seems to be Maul’s forte, and even though this twist seems to be one everyone expects, it would still be crazy. Devon seems like a very pure and loyal character, so her fall would be extremely tragic.
For now, the main trait connecting Devon and Darth Talon is their red skin, but the duel between Maul and Devon in the latest episodes shows that she has the fighting prowess to be a lethal assassin. She is more skilled than she lets on, and Maul has noticed. If he continues to target her emotional weaknesses, it won’t be long before she gives in to the dark side. If she joins Maul, she has to hide because no one, not even dark side users, can escape Vader or his Inquisitors.
3. Rylee Lawson Is Maul's True Target

Rylee Lawson is Detective Brander Lawson’s son, and it’s already been established that father and son don’t get to spend as much time together as they want. Lawson is extremely busy trying to protect Janix from criminal syndicates and keeping the Empire at bay. If Rylee continues to feel his father’s absence, he may be more vulnerable to people like Maul. If Rylee is Force- Sensitive, Maul would be able to sense it, making him an easy target as someone who probably does not know the Force. Rylee is a blank slate and would be far easier to mold. Maul could essentially repeat Palpatine’s game plan to manipulate Anakin by trying to take his father’s place. With Brander Lawson distracted, Maul can mold Rylee into any shape he wants.
This prediction would make for a devastating twist, as the show has done a great job of establishing Brander Lawson as a good man who has his hands full. Brander means well, but his work means staying away from Rylee. Lawson and Maul will obviously have a Tom and Jerry-like rivalry, as the Detective tries to capture Maul and prove his worth, but the ultimate twist would be if he does everything right, only to have to choose between Rylee and his career. This twist also works because no one is expecting it. So far, Maul’s attention has been on Devon Izara, and with the Darth Talon theory floating around, no one sees this coming.
2. Rook Kast Is The Armorer
Fans have long speculated that The Armorer was once a loyalist to Darth Maul, based on the very obvious clue of the horns on her helmet. Mando’s mother figure in the series could have been a “Mauldalorian”, and if this turns out to be true, it would fundamentally shatter his perception of her forever. Did the Children of the Watch form after the Shadow Collective broke apart? Could they have emerged from the fragments of the Shadow Collective? Rook Kast may go from Maul’s fanatical loyalist to The Armorer, which may mean that The Creed is fabricated. Perhaps she made up the helmet rule and the creed as a way for Mandalorians and remnants of the Shadow Collective to remain hidden from the Empire and later, the New Republic’s notice. If she’s involved in a crime syndicate, she wouldn’t want that shady past to taint her current position. Perhaps her strict adherence to the Way of the Mandalore is penance for her past misdeeds.
For a guy like Din Djarin, learning that The Creed and The Children of the Watch are merely a cover-up for The Armorer and other Mandalorians’ mistakes could mark a major turning point. He may begin to question everything he was taught. It could explain why The Armorer told him so little about the Jedi and even Mandalorian history. He knew nothing about Bo-Katan either, and given Bo and Rook Kast’s history, it all makes sense.
1. A Vader v. Maul Duel

Just imagine the cinematic spectacle of a confrontation between Darth Vader and Maul in Maul: Shadow Lord. Their contrasting fighting styles would make this arguably the most unique duel in the Star Wars saga. We’ve witnessed the emotional weight of the Vader and Kenobi rematch, but what makes a fight between two brothers intriguing is drastically different than the Vader/Maul potential. Anakin and Obi-Wan had nearly identical forms, and even in encounters in Obi-Wan Kenobi, Vader seemed to revert to his former fighting style.
However, a clash between Maul and Vader is an entirely different dynamic. Both share the trauma of mechanical limbs, as both men lost their legs because of Kenobi. While Vader is a man of few words, any dialogue between him and Maul is bound to be legendary. There’s a strong possibility that Maul would ultimately lose, and the loss may leave him reeling. Perhaps this is how the Shadow Collective will begin to collapse. Whatever happens, now that the Empire has its sights set on Janix, the probability of a confrontation between Darth Vader and Maul has definitely increased.
