For years, horror fans were lucky if they got two good movies a year, but thankfully, those times seem to be over. Horror filmmakers have been working overtime to put out some of the best horror films audiences have seen in decades, and so far, 2025 seems to be the best year yet. We have already been blessed with films like Sinners, 28 Years Later, and Final Destination Bloodlines, not to mention the fact that we are also getting the series IT: Welcome To Derry in October. Thankfully, the year isn’t over yet, and there are still plenty of incredible horror movies slated to be released before the end of the year. Let’s take a look at ten of the best horror movies coming out later this year!
10. 'HIM'

HIM is Jordan Peele’s newest film and sees Marlon Wayans returning to the horror genre. This is a sports-focused horror film, which is a fairly new take on the genre. The film follows an up-and-coming football player who is invited to the isolated compound of a legendary quarterback who is on the verge of retirement. While there, he agrees to do whatever it takes to become the best football player in the world. It will be hitting theaters on September 19.

Silent Night, Deadly Night is the second remake of the controversial 1984 slasher that has since become a cult classic. It stars Rohan Campbell, who is known for his roles in Halloween Ends and Sabrina Carpenter’s Taste music video. The film follows a child who witnesses the violent murder of his parents on Christmas Eve by a man dressed as Santa Claus. As an adult, he dons the suit himself and decides to seek revenge against the people that he blames for the horrific killing. I am all for a Christmas horror movie! The Toxic Avenger is officially described as a “superhero black comedy splatter film” that stars Peter Dinklage, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon. It is a remake of the 1984 film and acts as the fifth installment and official reboot of the franchise. The film follows a janitor named Winston Gooze who has a troubled relationship with his son, and after a freak accident, is turned into a vigilante named Toxie. He battles gangsters, criminals, and corrupt CEOs while also working to strengthen the relationship he has with his son. The Toxic Avenger will hit theaters on August 29.
7. 'The Long Walk'

The Long Walk is the newest Stephen King film adaptation and is based on his 1979 book of the same name that he wrote under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. The film follows a group of young men who take part in an annual contest where they must walk until there is only one person left. They are not allowed to slow down too much or stop for too long, and if they do, they are killed. The film stars Mark Hamill as the leader of the regime carrying out the event, and it is definitely going to be one of the more gruesome King adaptations. The Long Walk will hit theaters on September 12.
6. 'Five Nights at Freddy’s 2'

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is the sequel to the 2023 film, which was a huge hit with fans of the game. The sequel will see the return of Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard, and the addition of Wayne Knight, McKenna Grace, and Skeet Ulrich. This film is set exactly one year after the first film and finds Mike and Vanessa doing everything they can to keep Abby from learning the truth about the pizza parlor. Unfortunately, Abby decides to return to the parlor and find her friends, only to set into motion a horrifying chain of events. FNAF 2 will hit theaters on December 5.
5. 'The Conjuring: Last Rites'

The Conjuring: Last Rites is a sequel to The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and serves as the ninth and final installment in the franchise. As with the other films in the franchise, it will star Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as Ed and Lorraine Warren, and the story is pulled straight from the couple’s real-life investigations. This film will follow the couple as they attempt to exorcise a demon from a family’s home, only to learn that this is an entity they have met before. This entity makes it personal and goes after the Warren’s family as well. The Conjuring: Last Rites will hit theaters on September 5.
4. 'Shelby Oaks'

Shelby Oaks is an interesting film because it released its first trailer just a few days ago, but it premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival last summer. The film follows Mia as she searches for her missing sister, Riley. Decades earlier, Riley and her friends went to an abandoned town in Ohio called Shelby Oaks, where they planned to carry out a paranormal investigation for their YouTube channel. Later, Riley’s friends are found dead, and she is nowhere to be found. In the present day, a man shows up on Mia’s doorstep holding a tape with “Shelby Oaks” written on the label, says “she finally let me go,” and then kills himself. The tape shows Riley and leads Mia to believe her sister is alive, but may have been taken by something paranormal. I honestly expect this to be one of the scariest movies of the year. Shelby Oaks will finally hit theaters on October 3.
3. 'Black Phone 2'

Black Phone 2 is a sequel to the first film, which was released back in 2021 and was a massive hit with horror fans. It will see the return of Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies. The film follows Finn, who is now 17 and is struggling with life after being held captive. Soon, his sister begins to receive phone calls from the black phone in her dreams and is having horrifying visions. Black Phone 2 will hit theaters on October 17.
2. 'Weapons'

Weapons is easily one of the most anticipated horror films of the year, and that is thanks to their outstanding marketing campaign as well as the loaded cast. The film will star Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, and Benedict Wong, just to name a few. It follows a young teacher who arrives at work one morning only to find that every single one of her students is missing. According to the poster and trailer, “Last night at 2:17 am every child from Mrs. Grandy’s class woke up, got out of bed, went downstairs, opened the front door, walked into the dark… and they never came back.” The town quickly devolves into chaos, with parents seemingly becoming possessed and a police force that has no idea what they are supposed to do. Weapons will hit theaters on August 8.
1. 'Frankenstein'
This is my most anticipated horror film of the year, and nothing else comes close. This is Guillermo del Toro’s interpretation of Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, and it looks outstanding. The film will star Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Christoph Waltz, and Mia Goth. For those unfamiliar with the classic story, the film will follow the egotistical Dr. Victor Frankenstein who wishes to prove that he is the most brilliant man ever to live. He does this by using dead body parts to create a corpse, which he then reanimates. Frankenstein will hit Netflix this November.
