The work of legendary video game creator Hideo Kojima is coming to the small screen! During the 2025 Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific Content Showcase, they announced that Kojima’s action-adventure game Death Stranding would be developed into an anime. According to Deadline, the current working title of the series is Death Stranding Isolation.  It will be entirely hand-drawn in a 2D animation style. The director attached to the series is currently Takayuki Sano, with production being handled by E&H Production. It will stream exclusively on Disney+ with a release window of 2027.

New boost

The anime will have a similar story to the game. Set in America, it follows Sam Bridges as he attempts to save both the country and its people. Kojima commented on the project during its stage reveal (via Deadline), “I grew up loving Japanese anime, and it has shaped my worldview. I’ve always been a fan of Disney, since I was small, and I was glad that they showed my documentary on the platform. When they approached me, I decided to work with them.” With the creator behind the source material being this enthusiastic, things are looking bright for the future of this new anime.
