Nintendo essentially had their summer games showcase today with a Direct, and, at long last, they revealed what everyone had been hoping and calling for, and also suspected based on rumors: the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launched in 1998 on the Nintendo 64 and is so probably one of the most frequently listed games on any Greatest Games of All Time list that’s published. Creative fans have posted videos for years now of their vision of a remake using engines like Unreal Engine, but the time for dreams is coming to an end for this. While there is no hard date yet, the announcement, which was done through a sort of prologue narration that ended with a glimpse of what the game will look like remade, ended with a generic 2026 for a release date. With Grand Theft Auto 6 set to release in November, many companies are shifting release schedules to deal with that, but it is unclear if Nintendo will follow suit.
The other big announcement for the Direct was the reveal of a Kingdom Hearts collection coming to the Switch 2 for games 1 through 3, as well as a teaser announcement of Kingdom Hearts IV, which was also revealed to be coming to the Switch 2. There was no release date mentioned for Kingdom Hearts 4, but it’s the first glimpse at the game in action since it was revealed the game is being worked on in April of 2022.
The Direct was full of game announcements. Some other notable announcements include Warhammer 40k: Space Marines 2 coming to the Switch 2, as well as Onimusha, Devil May Cry 5, Stellar Blade, and Lies of P, to name a few more. Pokopia and Donkey Kong Bananza are getting DLC as well.
