Just in time for San Diego Comic-Con 2025, DC comic Booster Gold may finally be receiving a television adaptation on HBO Max. This, of course, comes on the heels of fellow DC elite, The Penguin, receiving a plethora of Emmy nominations.

HBO Max appears to be moving forward with the project, asking David Jenkins, the creator of Our Flag Means Death, to pen the pilot. If the show advances to the series stage, Jenkins will likely serve as the showrunner as well.

DC Studios leaders, James Gunn and Peter Safran, introduced the idea of Booster Gold a couple of years ago at the onset of the DC Universe reset. The concept seemed to lose momentum after the initial showrunner left the project. It appears that now may be the time to reconsider introducing this character into the fold.

Dan Jurgens initially created the comic with the superhero, Michael Jon “Booster” Carter. Booster, a Gotham City native, became a member of the Justice League. The plot beats include his alter ego attending college on a football scholarship. Disaster struck, though, when he was expelled for gambling. Booster is a superhero at heart but is often preoccupied with ideals of fame and fortune. A fun tidbit of worldbuilding, he once saved President Ronald Reagan. It was Reagan who gave this Gotham City University alum his nickname.

It will be interesting to see if more details emerge over the next few days at SDCC 2025.
