The first Twilight book was published 20 years ago, and the first Twilight movie was released in 2008. The film catapulted Robert Pattinson to unimaginable heights of stardom, and ever since, he has starred in independent films and blockbusters, eventually transforming from a vampire into a bat in The Batman. But there’s hardly any occasion when the actor isn’t asked about his take on Twilight, even after all these years. In a conversation with Extra TV at the red carpet premiere of his latest movie, Die My Love, Pattinson reflected on Twilight’s impact on his career. Although Pattinson was notorious for his controversial takes about the books and his vampire character, Edward Cullen, he is now grateful he was a part of it.
Pattinson told Extra, "It's amazing. I can't believe the cultural legs that movie has had ... just mind-blowing to me. It's so cool ... I get asked about it every single day ... I have such fond memories about the whole thing. I'm so grateful for it." The actor believes Twilight is one of the few things from that era that “we still talk about.” Although the Twilight films earned billions at the box office, they were hammered by the critics, including Pattinson, who did his best to emerge from the shadow of his Edward Cullen fame. For years, the actor tried to shed his image as a heartthrob by getting lost in complex characters, working with one great director after another. Eventually, Pattinson came back into the limelight with performances in The Lighthouse, Tenet, and The Batman. After Die My Love, Rob will be seen again in Dune: Part Three, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and The Batman: Part II, which begins filming next year. Despite so much success, it’s nice to see that Pattinson still appreciates the popularity of the Twilight saga and the fascination fans still have for it 20 years later, even if he wasn’t a huge fan earlier.
