The future of the MCU is, at least partly, in the hands of the mutants with the upcoming untitled X-Men film. The project is in very early stages of development, but work has actively started on it. Thunderbolts* (2025) director Jake Schreier will take charge of the project as its director. In an interview with Empire, the director spoke about what he learned from Thunderbolts* (2025) and what he can bring to this project.
Schreier kicked his comments off with a promising status update, “I can’t say anything about it, but we’ve started work on X-Men, and that’s obviously very, very exciting.” He continued, acknowledging that he had things to learn when going into his first MCU project, “There are so many things that I didn’t know about before I started [Thunderbolts*]. The biggest learning curve for me was the proportion of the action to the more emotional, character-driven scenes, and how, even though it’s more shooting days than I’ve ever had, they get eaten up quite quickly by the action stuff.” Schreier has had a fair amount of directing experience over the years; not only was Thunderbolts* (2025) a different genre than he typically worked on, but a professional never stops learning and honing their craft as well. The director gained valuable understanding and will be taking these lessons to apply in his work with the X-Men.
